7 Do's and 7 Don'ts for Holiday Happiness

Halloween is over. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah, and Kwanza are following quickly behind.

Plan ahead. Don't just let the holidays happen to you, make them happen for you. Share the holidays with both sides. Each spouse/partner check with his/her parent about what's most important. Then sit down with each other, and make that plan with consideration of both families. Plan now before Thanksgiving. Be as thoughtful and considerate to families, but remember your first allegiance is to your chosen spouse/partner.

Things to beware of: (The Don't Do's)
1. Long festering, unresolved issues
   * who was/is Mom's favorite
   * who took care of Dad during illness
   * who lost my money in a bad business deal

2. Over drinking. Alcohol loosens the tongue, and what slips out can never be unsaid.

3. Be respectful of second spouses. (it's very rare that the second spouse is the cause of the failed marriage; it is the result.)

4. Tendency to revert to childhood responses ---all those old insecurities come up. Acknowledge them, but don't believe them. Just because you think something, doesn't mean it's true---even if it's you that's thinking it - especially when it's coming from old emotional wounds.

5. Be kind to all children. They are along for the ride and are often ignored and disrespected by blended family adults who should know better.

6. Families of different cultural background can be interesting and fun or it can cause tension and friction

7. Overexplaining those old feelings They don't have to understand your history. Start from today.

Things to remember: (The Do Do's)
1. You have more control than you may realize and take responsibility for.

2. You don't have to let anyone push your buttons. Stop in mid sentence (if need be) and breath--slow, purposeful breathing.

3. Never ever no name calling to ANYONE -- even yourself.

4. Prepare yourself to have a happy time, and think of any good thing from holidays past and any one good thing you will accomplish this holiday.

5. No holiday or person needs to be perfect to be successful.

6. Don't compare your family to another or you/your spouse to others in your family

7. Your family doesn't have to like your partner or understand what you see in him, then simply have to be respectful of him and visa versa.

To summarize: Don't just let the holidays happen to you, make them happen for you. Plan ahead. Take care of yourself first, then your partner and kids, and then be kind to everyone else and you will slide into the New Year energized for a new set of resolutions. Happy Holidays Everyone.

FITNESS GURU CARL: 'JET STRETCHES'

Jet Stretches

Remember to hold each stretch at least 15 seconds

Seated

Upper Back Pull your right arm across your chest by pulling it from above the elbow with the left hand. Turn your head to the left. Switch sides.

Neck (back) Drop your chin, grab the back of your head with one hand and gently pull down.

Standing

Neck (side) With your arm relaxed at your side, stand next to a counter or some object at hand level. Grab hold of that object with palm up (i.e. grab under the counter with your palm facing upward). Bend your knees slightly and lean away from the counter. You should feel this in the side of your neck, shoulder and upper arm.

Chest Stand next to a bulkhead or restroom, extend your elbow straight out from your shoulder, slightly below shoulder level. Press your elbow against the bulkhead and lean into it. Turn your head and your opposite shoulder away.

Human bow Grab the bulkhead with your near hand at waist level. Reach over your head with your outside arm and grab hold. Now bend your knees slightly and push your hips away to the side (away from the bulkhead).

Quad (thigh) Standing, grab one foot and pull it in towards butt. Keep the supporting leg slightly bent. You might want to hold on to something while you do this so turbulence doesn’t knock you over.

Hip flexor Standing. Take a giant step. Back leg straight, front leg bent. Roll your hips up, pull your shoulders back. Hold on to something for stability.

Calves Brace yourself against something with both hands (bulkhead, counter, etc.), put one leg back, one forward. Back leg straight, heel down. Front leg bent for support.

Achilles Tendon From the calf stretch, bring the back foot forward a little, bend the knee, keeping the heel flat on the ground.

Arch From the Achilles stretch, lift the back heel up as high as it will go and press down into your toes. You’ve really got to bend the back knee a lot for this one to work.

Shin From the Arch of the Foot stretch, stand a little taller, straightening your legs. Drag the toes of your rear foot and hold. The bottom of your foot (on the rear leg) should be facing upward. This stretch works best with shoes off.

Lower Back (Hangover) Standing, feet at shoulder width, lean forward with your knees straight, hang and relax. Grab something attached to the airplane. When you’re ready to come up, bend your knees, put hands on thighs and roll up slowly.

Hamstring Hold on to something. Put your right foot forward with the toe up and leg straight. Bend the back knee. Push your butt back and shoulders down. You should feel this in the back of the right leg.

MYSTIC KRISTA: The 3 “Clair’s”

As I mentioned on last week’s show, many people who come for readings ask me if I am psychic. Although I talked about the meaning of the word “psychic”, I did not go into some of the varying abilities themselves. So, let me introduce some of these talents to you now.

Let’s begin with a trinity of abilities that I call “the 3 clairs”: clairaudience, clairsentience, and clairvoyance. Each ability is a heightened ability connected to a sense. Simply put, clairaudience is clear hearing; clairsentience is clear feeling; and clairvoyance is clear seeing. There are actually two other lesser known psychic abilities connected to the senses – clairalience (smell) and clairgustance (taste).

What does it actually mean to have any of these three abilities? A clairvoyant sees images that reveal hidden or distant information. This image can appear clear or dark, like the image on a negative. A clairsentient feels things from a person, object or thing. She may feel pain in her heart when a woman who recently lost her child approaches her. A clairaudient hears sounds where there are no sounds. Who knows, perhaps, clairaudience is how the deaf Beethoven composed incredible music in his mind.

Many psychics claim they have multiple psychic abilities. In my experience and research, I find this a bit dubious. One or two strong abilities is more likely.

These abilities can be very useful. Contrary to public belief, however, they are not a necessary attribute for a great reader. In the months to come, I will continue to talk about the qualities of a great reader, no matter what tool the reader uses.
